Expelled For Mini Skirt

By Associated Press

SAO PAULO (AP) — A Brazilian university expelled a woman who was heckled by hundreds of fellow students when she wore a short, pink dress to class, taking out newspaper ads Sunday to publicly accuse her of immorality.

The private Bandeirante University in Sao Bernardo do Campo, outside Sao Paulo, said 20-year-old Geisy Arruda disrespected "ethical principles, academic dignity and morality." Arruda made headlines last month when she had to be escorted away by police after she tried to go to class wearing the mini-dress. She put on a professor's white coat and left amid a hail of insults and curses.

Video of the Oct. 22 incident was posted on YouTube and picked up by Brazilian networks. Arruda has since appeared frequently on TV, saying she is struggling to return to normal life after being humiliated.

Bandeirante University published advertisements accusing Arruda of attending class with "inadequate clothing" and having a provocative attitude that was "incompatible with the university environment." In the ad, titled "Educational Responsibility," the college said it had warned Arruda to change her behavior and decided to expel her after talking to students, staff and Arruda herself. It accused her of posing for pictures and provoking other students.

Arruda told Folha Online on Sunday she was appalled. "I was the victim," she said. "How can I be expelled? It's absurd." Arruda said she learned of her expulsion through the news media and had not received official notification. She said university officials told her last week she would be allowed to return to classes with the protection of a security guard.

Today as Americans around the world reflect with heavy hearts on the carnage that occurred on Thursday November 5, 2009 at Fort Hood, Texas, the question of who is Major Malik Nadal Hasan, U.S. Army psychiatrist?, burns deeply in the minds of many Americans who still are trying to cope with Hasan’s vile acts of cowardice and betrayal.

Thirteen people killed (12 soldiers 1 civilian), 34 recovering from gun shot wounds. Scores of lives forever scarred. Malik Nadal Hasan the treasonous soldier who was determined not to deploy to Afghanistan or Iraq, committed the ultimate act of treachery and cowardice against America when he entered Fort Hood’s Soldier’s Readiness Center and mercilessly and callously drew two handguns and shot, killed and maimed the very same American citizens that he took an oath to protect and to defend with his life.

Update: Hasan is alive, the army announced. He was previously believed to have been killed.

Earlier: The suspected gunman in the Fort Hood shooting has been identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan. He was killed and two other suspects have been apprehended, according to Army Spokesman Lt. General Robert W. Cone.

Anthony Sowell, 50, a registered sex offender who lives in the home, was charged Tuesday with five counts of aggravated murder.

"It appears that this man had an insatiable appetite that he had to fill," police Chief Michael McGrath said. He said the four bodies were found buried in the backyard of the home and a skull was found in a bucket in the basement.

Remains of four more people were unearthed from the backyard of a rapist's home Tuesday, raising to 10 the number of bodies found in and near the house, as police also searched boarded-up homes in the neighborhood where residents complained for years of a stench that one even said "smelled like a dead body."
